TFT Tapping - Thought Field Therapy

Developed by Dr. Roger Callahan, a clinical psychologist, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Dr. Callahan's innovative approach combined elements of traditional psychology with concepts from Eastern medicine, including the meridian system used in acupuncture. TFT involves tapping on specific acupressure points while focusing on specific thoughts or emotions to alleviate psychological distress. Over the years, TFT has evolved and modified, leading to the development of other tapping methods such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and others. This innovative approach aims to tackle a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges such as anxiety, trauma, fears, and negative thought patterns. By gently tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on distressing thoughts or emotions, TFT tapping seeks to restore the body's energy balance and promote emotional well-being. This evidence-supported method offers a holistic and non-invasive way to rewire the mind's responses and foster emotional resilience.

In the 1990s Gary Craig, a student of Callahan, developed EFT as a streamlined version of TFT. Craig's incorporation of his training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) led to the introduction of "healing scripts" to enhance the tapping process.. Through gentle tapping on specific energy meridian points on the body, EFT helps to alleviate emotional distress, reduce anxiety, manage stress, and even address physical discomfort. This evidence-backed technique has gained widespread recognition for its ability to promote emotional well-being and restore balance within the body's energy system. By integrating the mind-body connection, EFT tapping offers a natural and non-invasive approach to achieving emotional resilience and overall vitality.

TFT and EFT: A Comparison of Empirically Validated Approaches

Both Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) are effective in alleviating distress, anxiety, and trauma. EFT has gained greater recognition and wider usage compared to TFT.

Presently, the primary distinction between TFT and EFT lies in their tapping point selection and sequence. TFT tailors these aspects based on the specific emotions experienced by the client at the time of therapy. In contrast, EFT employs a consistent set of tapping points and sequence for every session, occasionally integrating supplementary healing scripts provided by the facilitator and echoed by the client.
